New Magetism in the World of Work

In “Why pay rises for your company’s flight risks can backfire” (paywall), the FT highlights likely structural issues beyond pay that inform the choice to leave.

“Attrition” and “Resignation” are not a temporary blip; they are clear signals of a structural realignment in the World of Work, long seen by the World Economic Forum.

Retention is no adequate response. Nor is it about the current temperature of the jobs market.

It is about the need for systemic responses, rooted in Attraction.

In the context of project-based, team-based work, Individuals need to think and behave differently, by considering and positioning themselves as a services value proposition, and by building a portfolio of credentials that sustain the attractiveness of that proposition.

Therefore, people are increasingly attracted to work that will help them to learn and grow, professionally and personally, in terms of their long-term value.

By the same token, organisations must articulate clearly and attractively their need for such services propositions, including the opportunity and the commitment to help individuals actively to build their value.

With clarity as to the basis of attraction, and transparency as to mutual promises, commitments, and agreements on growth, what results is an open, respectful and equitable exchange of value.

Fitter for Purpose entrain such value exchanges, firstly by enabling organisations to specify accurately role-based needs for their growth initiatives and secondly, by illuminating the value Individuals bring to initiatives, so that teams can work together more effectively. Outcome: greater engagement, more commitment, increased likelihood of initiative success.
